The 4 "Ls" for Looking Good at Pageant Appearances

There is something unique about being in the spotlight as a Beauty Queen! As a title holder you’ll be attending charity events, galas, and getting lots of photo shoots! You may be featured in magazines, appear as a guest on TV, or host a charity fundraising gala! Your outfit should be reflective of the event that you are making an appearance at. And your hair and makeup should tie it all together.

Now that pageant season in full swing I’ve got some great beauty tips for all the queens out there!

1.  Layering. Layering your makeup products will make it last! Applying primers under makeup preps the skin, acting like a veil between the skin and the makeup.

2.  Lock it in. Once you apply your full face of makeup a setting spray will lock it in. These products are available for all skin types, so be sure to use what suits your skin!

3.  Lashes: This is a staple in pageantry and it all begins with lashes! Many competitors choose to wear eyelash extensions and I feel this is a great option, as it saves time in your daily makeup routine. Be sure to go to a reputable salon with good hygiene practices, to avoid infection! You may have allergies and need a hypo allergenic glue, as well as lashes that don’t cause irritation. You have options such as silk, mink, and synthetic blends. Be sure to ask a lot of questions to avoid any issues. Some “do it yourself” options are strip lashes or individual lashes, and the choices of length and style are endless!

4.  Lasting lip color: One dilemma that many title holders have is finding lipsticks that last. I recommend either using a lip stain with a gloss on top or a long wearing lip color. The felt tip gives you control of application, allowing you to create fuller lips! Applying lip pencil over the entire lip, under your lipstick, is another option that keeps lip color on throughout the day! Finding a lip color that lasts, without having to constantly touchup, will make all the difference!

The BEST beauty advice that I can offer to pageant queens is always wear a smile and have fun! Enjoy all the opportunities and experiences that come your way as a title holder!
