History Made: Army Veteran Raquel Riley Thomas Wins Elite Queen of the World with Self-Defense Mission

Washington, DC — May 12, 2025 — Decorated U.S. Army Captain (Veteran), award-winning media executive, and global self-defense advocate Raquel Riley Thomas has made history as the first U.S. Army Veteran to win the title of Elite Queen of the World 2025, marking her sixth beauty queen title. Her winning platform, DefendRILEY, is a self-defense initiative dedicated to empowering women and young girls with the skills and confidence to protect themselves.

Raquel’s journey is a testament to resilience and reinvention. Carrie Hadley Gives Lessons on Fragrance Making on Fox5 Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga., Oct 4, 2022—Fashion Group International of Atlanta (FGIATL) announced that Raquel Riley Thomas has been named as Public Relations Chair. Mrs Thomas’ appointment to FGIATL Executive Board will commence in early October 2022. 

Raquel has more than 30 years of senior media experience, including almost a decade of military service. Raquel is a decorated military veteran, having served nine years in the U.S. Army (5-years Enlisted photojournalist; 4-years Ordnance Officer Captain). She is now inducted into the Library of Congress for her service work. In 2011, Raquel founded An Officer and Gentlewoman, LLC, a media and entertainment company with divisions in talent management, brand management, public relations and production services.

Raquel graduated from the Defense Information School (DINFOS). She graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Hampton University. PENNSYLVANIA RESIDENT SELECTED AS LITTLE MISS NORTH AMERICA 2021!

Bierenbaum is Little Miss North America (LMNA) 2021. She was selected on June 11, 2021. She was officially crowned by Tiarah Williams on June 16, 2021. Her pageant platform is No Kid Hungry.  This is the second time that Bettis has won this title. She also holds the 2019 title.  

The crowning was a virtual crowning and it included the passing of the crown from Tiarah Williams, LMNA 2020. Participants in the virtual crowning included Bettis’ family members, Tiarah’s family members. Queens from other systems surprised the young ladies to include, Mrs. America 2011 (1st RU), Raquel Riley Thomas, Mrs. Germany World 2020, Sandahl Taylor and Mrs. DC American 2021, Cheryl Burghart.

Bettis Bierenbaum is 10 years old and resides in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania with her parents, sister Layne, and brother Harris. She is a member of PYLAX Lacrosse team and one of two girls who plays on the local NFL Flag Football team. She enjoys swimming, golfing, and riding horses. She is currently learning to play the guitar.

 Bettis works with several local charities to include: The Bus Stops Here Foundation, Best of the Batch Foundation, JMD Cancer Resource Center and Numerous Veteran’s Charities. She now works alongside LMNA organization for No Kids Hungry Foundation.

 A fun fact: Bettis is named after Hall of Fame football great Jerome Bettis and she shares his passion for never quitting as well as helping others.

 The Little Miss North America (LMNA) contest officially recognizes children ages 7-12 years of age who live in the United States of America who have obtained personal and community achievements. Historic Day: A Teacher, An Attorney and a Flight Attendant Take Top Honors On First Ever Virtual DC Pageant.

6-29-2020 District of Columbia. The District of Columbia has three new queens! On Saturday, June 27th, the Miss DC of America and Mrs. DC America pageant held their first ever virtual pageant online during the COVID- 19 Pandemic. Lakeisha Brown, from Friendship Height, was crowned Miss DC for America 2020. JeanAnne Roberts was crowned Mrs. DC America 2020.  In addition for the first time ever in the 1st Runner- Up of Mrs. DC America was crowned with a new title: Mrs. D.C American. Helene Meister is your first ever Mrs. DC American 2020.

Lakeisha C. Brown is your new Miss DC for America 2020. She grew up and graduated from a very small town in Oxford, Pennsylvania. In fact, her town is so small that there are only two traffic lights! She has a Bachelor Degree in Art/Elementary/Special Education from Albright College. She has a B.A in speech communication from Marshall University. JeanAnne also has appeared in a national ad as a model and an actor and continues to pursue this passion. JeanAnne was a former U.S Airways flight attendant for 12 years. She also loves fitness, traveling, and spending time with her family. Her Platform is mentoring young girls to become future leaders through The Girl Scouts of America, and as an Ambassador/ Share Leader for the Girl Scouts her goal is to help young girls become leaders in the community and the world. Helene Meister Is your first ever Mrs. DC American 2020. She recently graduated with a Juris Doctor from American University and previously obtained a Master’s degree from the law University of Paris. Helene worked in the French capital before relocating to Washington D.C.

Helene has been married to her husband Kris for seventeen years and has a teenage son, Kyle. She is a member of the ADDA the Attention Deficit Disorder Association and supports the Kids in Need foundation. Her son was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and speech impairment at age six and after multiple academic challenges in the private and public school system, she decided to use this experience to help other children and parents in similar situations. Her Platform is equal chances for special needs children because every child deserves equal access to education and opportunities to succeed regardless of her background and learning disabilities.

The winners of all three divisions Miss D.C for America and Mrs. D.C America and Mrs. D.C American will move on to their respective national pageants, Miss for America, Mrs. America, Mrs. American.The national pageants are scheduled to be held in October at the Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
